THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL AND MIGHT
"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding; THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL AND MIGHT, the Spirit of Knowledge and of the Fear of the Lord." Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV)
BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 11:1-5; ISAIAH 40:28-31; EZEKIEL 36:24-33; PROVERBS 3:5-6
The Spirit of Counsel and Might are Two Major Expressions of the Holy Spirit that operate in tandem with each other. First of all, the Spirit of Counsel provides us as Genuine Christian believers with Divine Guidance. You may have access to all the counsel in the world, but without the Guidance and Clarification of the Holy Spirit, you can only go so far (Ps. 37:23). The Spirit of Counsel reveals to us what we ought to do with Divine Clarity as stated clearly in the Holy Scriptures by the prophet Isaiah: “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My Statutes, and you will keep My Judgments and do them” (Ezek. 36:27). You can only know if you were really led by the Holy Spirit by taking note of where you finally end up. This is why the Holy Bible tells us that “Your ears shall hear a Word behind you, saying, ‘This is the Way, walk in it…”(Isa. 30:21). The Holy Spirit is more than Able and Willing to guide us if we would only follow His Guidance and Leading hence the Lord Jesus said, “However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all Truth…” (Jn. 16:13).
According to the second verse of the Eleventh Chapter of the Book of the prophet Isaiah, we learn about the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Might. The term "Might" used in this verse is a derivative of a Hebrew word called "Gibbor" which literally means, “champion,” “strong,” “mighty,” or “he who excels.” That term is also associated with One of the Names of God Himself i.e."El Gibbor," which translated into the English Language means "The Mighty God" (Gen. 49:24; Ps. 50:1). The Spirit of Might is the Manifestation of the Holy Spirit that is revealed whenever God wants to show Himself Strong (2 Chron. 16:9). He always wants to do this during the establishment of an Ordained Work, so it will be clear to all that He remains its Sole Source and Sustainer.
We call upon El Gibbor in order to see Victory and Strength in any situation, but we welcome the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Might whenever we need to see Perpetual Progress and Ongoing Victories. Just like the Spirit of Counsel, the Spirit of Might comes to rest on us, and His Glorious Presence acts as a Wall of Fire around us that eviscerates loss. He does not always alleviate challenges or the need to fight the Good Fight of Faith because sometimes we have to contend. However, we never have to lose. God has already fought and won the battle for us (Josh. 23:10) and the Spirit of Might teaches us how to live in Victory rather than just experience it periodically and sporadically. In addition to keeping us from losing the battles of life, the Spirit of Might keeps us from losing Faith, Hope, Territory, Time and Progress. He does this by encouraging us to remain Strong and Courageous (Josh. 1:9). Creating and establishing something new always takes Courage, and the Spirit of Might is resident in our lives to help us to become brave because "the Righteous are bold as a lion" (Prov. 28:1).
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we glorify Your Holy Name. O Lord, we pray that You fill us with the Spirit of Counsel and Might so that we may do Mighty Works in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.
